I am here

Good morning, October. Chilly start, but that's OK. Fall's where it's at, for however shortened amount of time it lasts. 42ºF + sun.

Thinking I have another title for The Main Thing, something I'm digging. Now I need the rest of the thousands of words for the inside bits, but that'll come, probably.

Meanwhile, in "yes I have published a book and yes it was almost nine years ago but" news: I have earned out on the first book – the sweetest $58.39 I’ve ever made. Now I'll be interested to see how long it remains in print.

To add fuel to my “I’m getting paid to write this shit again” fire: I also made 92 cents in Australia on the second one this week. I’m rolling in coin.

The day awaits.

Writing is, I've determined after my years of abject toiling, the public exhibition of learning to be patient with oneself.

Starting to think of these - as I probably shouldve done from the start – as edited, somewhat, for public consumption, versions of my daily, handwritten journal. The structure is all too similar: an opening ramble, the timeblock, followed by whatever random shit interests me or confounds me throughout the day. Only thing I'm not doing is a final scribble at day's end; I've tried that here, and it didn't work for me. Alas.

Have to wrap up BLOW OUT today as I found, as soon as I started it, that it was leaving Criterion Channel today. Excellent film so far – no clue why I've never seen it before, given my De Palma love, but there you go.

The day awaits. Bricks under a desk for a new standing desk.

Good morning; it's currently 48ºF under sunny skies and I am, for the second time this week, faced with a significant – and thus far inexplicable – morning blood sugar surge. Most likely culprit: weather change. Every time this happens – which is every time the weather shifts significantly – I forget that this happens. Until proven otherwise, I'll roll with this being the responsible party.

Finished McCarthy's ALL THE PRETTY HORSES yesterday and promptly added the other two titles in his Border Trilogy – THE CROSSING and CITIES OF THE PLAIN – to the to-read list. Beautiful book.

The latest collab between myself and Elizabeth Joan Kelly, RE/EMERGENCE0004, is now available to your eyes and ears – for a limited time. Feast upon our ArtsNCraftsPunk.

“'The ways democracies often die is through legal things at the ballot box…'”

“We often think that what we should be waiting for is fascists and communists marching in the streets, but nowadays, the ways democracies often die is through legal things at the ballot box — so things that can be both legal and antidemocratic at the same time,” said Daniel Ziblatt, a professor at Harvard University and the co-author of “How Democracies Die,” who is working on a successive volume. “Politicians use the letter of the law to subvert the spirit of the law.”

Grey skies, 62ºF and more than a bit muggy: climate-change weather machinations and attendant seasonal bastardizations continuing without end.

A brief moment of panic three-to-five-minutes-ago as Kirby, in the midst of chasing a ball, stumbled over himself and let loose a yelp and a limp. He's since walked it off, no problems putting weight on the leg. Cautious relief, moving forward.

Big day today, the first chat of what I'm considering to be season two of THE SOCIALIZED RECLUSE (eight episodes feels like a solid length for a "season"). Demarcation simply because I'm trying out new things – interview via Zoom, for one – and this is, remarkably, the start of the show's second year.

The day awaits.
