tactile

Conversation with a good friend the other week made me realize what's going on with my move towards metalwork: I'm redisovering my love for and need of tactile creation. Suppose this love makes sense, given that my entrance into the arts was playing drums (hit stuff and that makes cool sounds) and that my downfall(s) began when I shifted more into the internal, less tactile arts (music composition, especially, though writing can't be absolved of its complicity in my descent into creative schizophrenia). Filmmaking was far more tactile than writing – though since I've also started drawing and cartooning, I'm bringing more tactile sensation to my storytelling (should it survive). And I can't forget that I've long considered accepting the Executive Director position at the NPO to be the biggest mistake of my career: I missed getting my hands dirty too much. Alas, live and learn. Eventually.

Temp dropped below freezing last so the mud bog backyard of the last several days is under a frosty coat. Nice to not sink on my walk to The Shed to plug it in for its post-nighttime heating recharge. Little victories, little victories – which, speaking of, I'm continuing to celebrate yesterday's homemade record cabinet and subsequent recognition of what Lon's final form will be. Looks like I will, indeed, get to get him there later.

Haven't been writing or thinking much about politics here because, like the first go-round with King Tumor, everything is so on-the-surface horrible there's no meat on the bone to write about. I donate to where I can (recurring contribution to the ACLU) but am holding off any and all donations to Dems until they grow a pair and act like a fucking opposition party (AOC is doing great, but she can't do this alone forever) and not the kumbaya party of reconciliation and ass-ring-kissing. I mean, come on.

record cabinet

After a colossal failure a few weeks ago in vinyl storage / record cabinet construction, I used the remnants of that monstrosity to make one that I'm rather proud of today. Had the idea this morning, spent the day building and painting, listened to great music at the end (Nik Bartsch's Ronin's SPIRAL). Along the way, figured out Lon's final evolution which, should weather cooperate, I'll shepherd him tomorrow. Yep, I’m proud of this one (as, it seems, is John Mastodon).
