End of summer break inbound; whereas everyday felt, for the last eight weeks, like Saturday, now they feel like Sunday. And so it goes, through the next few weeks. Things in process:

  • Final Shed transition from writing space with tools to full-on industrial art workshop. Metal and pictures and words oh my.

  • Moving rocks around nuPond. New footpath in the works for optimal gill-baby viewing.

  • Drawing little things for a zine, maybe. Words eventually, again.

  • Reading: WE ARE WATCHING, by Alison Gaylin; LOWER THAN THE ANGELS: A HISTORY OF SEX AND CHRISTIANITY, by Diarmaid MacCullough

  • Watching: PARADISE, season one.

  • LISTENING: On a BRMC binge.

  • PLAYING: ROBOCOP: ROGUE CITY replay on PS5 because my brain can handle only wanton awesomeness and occasional quirk; BALATRO and MARIO KART WORLD on the Switch 2.

  • Toying around with new metal ideas, though I might wait for the blazing heat to fuck off to work on something bigger.

MARIO KART live(!)

I bitch about this state a lot, but every so often, something reminds me that it’s not all churches and Applebee’s and gas station convenience stores. Thank you, Columbus:

Mario Kart Band is a full jazz band out of Columbus, Ohio. Their schtick is, unsurprisingly, playing jazz versions of Mario Kart music. However, they play it while real players race on a big screen, and it looks like an absolute blast. According to the band's Instagram, they play regular gigs, so anyone in the Columbus area should check them out.

59ºF, clouds: convinced that part of my Switch love is how much it reminds me of Sega's Game Gear, as close to a perfect portable system as one can get. Current game lineup is CUPHEAD, HADES, and UNTITLED GOOSE GAME in addition to the MARIO KART boot camp: I think I'm unraveling some of my niece's launch trickery. Victory will be mine.

Staring at the screen that's both filled and blank, a recognition emergent that not only do I not know what to write – both in the bird-by-bird and the broad sense – but I’m unsure of how to write it; suspect that it will take both what/how to solve said quandary, or a third (why?) or the right balance of the HW/Obs/Muse nexus but: can't decide if Muse is contributing to the solution or to the problem – or if it's showing me the problem which will, in theory/dreams, lead to the solution? Either way, might be time to let MainFictionThing percolate for a week and return to other MainFictionThing(s).

That said, something's sounding right though I don't know what. Alas.

RIP Godard; I had already planned a rewatch of ALPHAVILLE. Might have to push that up.

i am their revolving doorman

68ºF, rain – and yet: inside and outside and inside and outside, one dogchild after another, sometimes solo, sometimes a duo, sometimes a trio / inside and out and inside and out: this is my day, already; Derbz-meltdown potential rises as DerbzBall likelihood dwindles.

I'll probably likewise be inside today; should've gone to pick up that punching bag yesterday, shit (my days of rowing are over as it's proven to be murder on my back (my back, my fucking back) and I've decided to cut my losses and try something I've always wanted to try). Yoga/HIIT? Try out K’s recumbent bike? Run around in circles, etc etc? IDK.

The TD-1K is hooked up and sounds great. Better than my acoustic kit, surprisingly enough. Still have to get the pads and cymbals in the right spot: still a bit claustrophobic.

Cool uncle (maybe) cred reupped by getting my niece hooked on GOAT SIMULATOR. Victory is mine – kid can even get the goat to stick onto the donut-car: impressive. Note: need to buy a switch so I can practice on MARIO KART, still: I can't let her reign of terror against my gamer's pride continue – no matter how proud I am that she can kick my ass.
