Never underestimate the ability of paper, scissors, and tape to take a project over the cognitive finish line.

And on this, the final morning of conelife, that moment when you decide to stop watering certain seeds and accept that you've done all you can – or are willing to do within the boundaries of your values – and move on.
(Though I'll probably forget about it tomorrow but let this meander serve as marker in my personal history that I did it once and can do it again.)
After another brief flirtation with returning to once-a-day posting here, I've come back to this hodgepodge jumble: I prefer letting things out as they come to me; can do deeper processsing for bi-weekly newsletter, if warranted. This is my preferred space by which to share my “personal micro-culture," as William Gibson would say: it should be reflective of my thinking processes as well. Just where I am, for better or for worse.
Working in Muse again this morning to try to replicate the text deletion error: a testament to how much I like working in this space if I'm willing to run the risk of losing work to help make it work again – because of course I've decided to make this particular return on the day of the presentation to UArk students...
The era of the cone ends tomorrow. It was only when I drew this that I realized that Kirby has looked like a Chemex for two weeks.
Good mail day.

Democrats, get your shit together.
Oh, and since I’m in the mood to offer political strategy advice at this early hour: stop sending so many shitty email newsletters. I've unsubscribed to at least 15 of them that I ended up with thanks to my generosity in the 2020 election (I remain proud of my standing as the biggest Biden donor in my zip code). They all reek of poorly-written desperation and the happiest I’ve been as a Democrat is when I hit “unsubcribe.”
I do try to remember – for the sake of perspective – that Election Day 2022 is a year out (though according to all news sites, THE MIDTERMS HAVE BEGUN!) and, a year before his inauguration, Biden was fifth in Iowa and COVID was only a blip that would, almost two years later, kill – according to The Economist's calculations including uncounted deaths – 17 million people across the world. A lot changes in a year – but this doesn't change the truth that Dems have to get their shit together. Do something.
In work news / things I can at least pretend to control, I returned to MainFicThing after a week away and, as ever, have found the challenge of getting back to it after any (necessary) time away to be an uphill climb. Slight dismay that little has changed in my thinking regarding it but, even though it's going nowhere / has gone nowhere this morning, it's nice to be back with the scribbles.
Later: Endo- – not Endor, at least there I could hang with Ewoks – but Endocrinologist -bound to hear how terribly I've done with the T1D (these appointments reek of “I’m not angry, just disappointed”) over the last six months. Would be grand to learn something I don't already know but at least I get to listen to podcasts on the drive up. Though my queue is empty. Shit.
One day of conelife remains.

Another grey morning but only two days of conelife remain so I've got that going for me (which is nice).
Wrapped up DUNE last night: very, very good – even if it's just half a movie. Beautiful – in spite of my ugly inability to remember sci-fi characters and their realtions in film form : a definite blind spot that I've tried to ameliorate over the years but one that, now that I'm coasting along the jellyfish-infested beach of 40, I've learned to begrudgingly accept.
Script / scratch / notes for NonFicComicsThing on target for delivery to eyes later this afternoon: it makes sense to me, so I guess that's all that matters. Trick will be to use it to help others make sense of their work. Magic, or something.
Dog-child sustenance and other morning ablutionary misc. before work return. Nom-noms inbound.
Bags 7-8/8 :: 3854 Pieces
Construction: complete. Now to drive the dogchildren nuts before turning its remote-control-funtime over to my grandfather for display purposes and the always enjoyable “95-year-old-man’s-eyes-light-up-like-kid-at-Christmas” moment.

The latest episode of Elizabeth Joan Kelly’s ELECTROJUNKYARD on CAMP Radio is fantastic – and I’d say that even if I didn’t have the good fortune to work with her.
“Kirby, did you eat the tape?” (No, he didn’t.)

Hello, November. Mask-optional days have begun at K's school: cue Marge Simpson grumble of unease. But hey, at least I'm semi-conscious this morning and feeling ok. NonFicComicsThing has returned in a new form and it's finally making sense though I know it would be easier to put together had a certain spatial thinking canvas app not decided to delete most of my text and erode my trust. Holding out hope for an update this week, hinthint – I want to sing its praises again because when it works it's wonderful. When it doesn't, not so much.
Related: Kevin Hodgson's implementation of Kevin Kelly's Internet Mapping Project has me intrigued. Might better light the path forward on NonFicComicsThing.
Dog-children sustenance, training, then back to work. Three days of conelife remain.
