botanical scrap shelving, corner glitch edition
The past weekend’s efforts at scrapwood Lego Botanical shelving were a rousing success, so much so that K asked me to make more, with an upgraded challenge: corner shelving. So I did my usual method (build first, measure later, hammer in pieces that don’t fit) and scrabbled together this effort. K was thrilled and excited to build more Legos, and I was rather pleased with the glitchy effect my total disregard for measurement lent it.
1985 Godzilla desktop lighter
For some reason or other, I always wanted a desktop cigarette lighter (probably from seeing Sam Spade use one in THE MALTESE FALCON) but never got around to buying one. Until I found this beautiful little thing. And yeah, I may have quit smoking 13 years ago, but a.) I like being married, and b.) it's a GODZILLA cigarette lighter, which goes a long way towards soothing those 13 years of longing.
"periods of numb emptiness"
Though I’ve been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, I never felt it accurately described my brainpain; BPD felt more apposite and, while my current med cocktail keeps the worst of it at bay (most of the time), the ping-ponging between feeling everything and feeling nothing but emptiness (generally skew this way) is fucking exhausting. Hopefully this excellent piece is the start of deeper research into an under-examined aspect of the disorder.
