first day

First day working in NuSanctum – though much of that Work involved installing the air conditioner as the space was uninhabitable by 1030, a placeholder until the heat pump – and it's been exactly what I've wanted in a workspace for years (the knowledge that my useless creative meanderings are no longer contributing to planetary climate decimation is also rather therapeutic). Still have to add shelving and organize things – and decide which (if any) items from The Collection will make their way out here – but that's for another day: for now, I'm going to let myself bask in the victory.

Stood in Babyshed in the rain and didn’t get wet. Roofing insecurity somewhat ameliorated.

Update: I did, indeed, spend part of the afternoon sitting in Orangina The Chair (after baking in the lawnmowing heat of the day) and, while doing so, spotted my long-missing yellow highlighter (Sharpie Gel, the only kind that don’t smear fountain pen ink) peeking out from under a corner across the room. A positive omen, I think.

nor did i electrocute myself

Installed a new stereo (Sony touchscreen with CarPlay so I can listen to something other than NPR, classic rock, and Christian rock - such are the radio choices out here) in Huey the Truck this afternoon and I’m feeling rather proud of myself right now, thank you very much.

victory(!?)

One of those (pleasantly) surprising (and rare) mornings: think I just finished MainFictionThing, the feature for the second issue of PRESS (A) TO START. Hopefully it heralds the dawn of a faster, more pulp/punk ethos of creation: that was always the goal with it – though this one took a lot longer than I expected (or hoped). Current plan is to hold off on putting the second issue together until January, until after my grandfather's house is empty and in the hands of the new owners (read: no longer my problem), and spend my mornings working on new things through at least the end of the year, then do the final pass in the typography and design of the issue itself. Very excited to send this one out into the world. I'll happily notch the victory.
